In collaboration with UTC’s Community Studio, Plenum is developing a cultural asset inventory process.
Asset-Based Community Development and Community-Directed Development are related strategies for “development from within”, or change that is envisioned and lead by residents themselves. The asset-based approach starts by discovering, activating, and stabilizing assets found within the community — its people, cultures, environment, buildings, and other resources.
The concept of ‘cultural agency’ refers to the social contributions of creative practices, and suggests strategies focused on each neighborhood’s cultural assets.
Cultural assets can include skills, memories, traditions, social networks, organizations, buildings, artifacts, and landscapes.
The cultural asset inventory process involves self-discovery, asset mapping, and activation of personal connections.
